April 13: the best I've read this week

The best I've read this week

Welcome to this week's Best I've Read This Week which, this week, falls on Friday 13th. Unlucky for some, but since my son was born on a Friday just like this, it's become my favorite day and a great chance to pass you some articles that will make a tangible difference to your business!

This week was much slower - there was a lot of pontificating about Mark Zuckerberg's appearance in front of Congress and a whole bunch of blogs that seem to have just cottoned on to impending GDPR doom, while those of us in Europe knew we had to get our data in order months ago!

This article should convince you that you need to get your review plan under control.

Gina Gotthilf on growing Duolingo to 200 million users

For a change, not actually an easily implemented tip, but this time a very interesting with the woman sorta-responsible for driving Duolingo (the language app) from 3 million to 200 million users! Obviously, these are figures that most of us can only dream of, but it's a remarkably interesting and human look at what it takes to push such growth. I'm a big fan of reading outside my speciality area, and if this is outside yours, I definitely recommend you read it, and listen to the associated podcast.

Facebook Marketing: What’s Changing, What’s Not, & What To Do

If you use Facebook ads, this is a humorous but practical guide to what's changed after recent events and what you can do about it. Be warned, in at least one case, your only recourse will be to throw your hands to the sky and scream “WHY DO YOU MOCK ME.”, but let's be honest, when it comes to Facebook Ads, most of us are doing this on a regular basis regardless!
